Hammers
There are four basic types of hammers:
- machinist's or ball peen
- claw
- rubber mallet
- plastic or soft-faced.
The ball peen hammer is commonly used by a mechanic, but the claw hammer can
do the same job. Plastic soft faced hammer can be used where less force is
required, while the rubber mallet hammers are good for installing snap-on
hubcaps without marring the surface. A good quality hammer should have a
drop-forged and heat treated head, and a hickory, ash or fiberglass handle.
However, an inexpensive hammer works as well as an expensive one.
